What are the Primordials

Born of the early aetherial density of the universe, the Primordials are timeless ephemeral beings that took it upon themselves to form the aether into planets, stars and the denizens of the universe. Primordials are entirely genderless and timeless, in their most relaxed state appear as nothing more than formless blue gas filled with star-like points of light. When attempting some task or action, a Primordial will assume a shape that suits the task as best they can. When dealing with mortals, Primordials have a preferred shape, but will often assume a shape that is more familiar to the mortal in question.

The Primordials

Ord

The very first Primordial to form after the birth of the universe was Ord, though the other Primordials followed shortly thereafter. Ord is concerned primarily with the perfection of the universe and is driven by this desire to create systems that work to an exacting order. Believing that there is a process to a perfect universe, through creation, Ord has set about to force this perfection. Ord is a dour, serious figure who seems entirely immune to humour. Ord's preferred form is that of a gargantuan giant, a being entirely composed of purest white marble. The form is androgynous and toned. When appearing to mortals, if at all possible, Ord takes the appearance of a hooded figure with their face hidden but a long beard protruding.

Soluna

Soluna is the second Primordial to form and is the embodiment of chaos, primarily interested in making the universe a more interesting place by adjusting things and introducing just a little chaos and uncertainty. Soluna is the polar opposite of Ord and is a constant frustration to Ord when tinkering with the perfect creations. Soluna is bright and joyful, and enjoys messing with their siblings. Soluna's preferred form is that of cat or humanoid cat made of a swirling black mist with occasional flashes of light from somewhere inside the turbulent darkness. When appearing to mortals Soluna always assumes a feminine shape for that race, owing to their chaotic nature it becomes increasingly difficult to ascertain actual features in Solunas form, especially when concentrating on doing so. Soluna currently lurks within Ord's aetherial shadow.

  • Lady of Storms

Azak

Azak and Rialin were the next set of Primordials to emerge. Azak is a collector of things, as the other Primordials created things, Azak catalogued and collected them. Azak is a loner and prefers to keep the company of their collection rather than their Primordial brethren, so much so that they created a domain within the Astral Plane to house all the objects and creatures they had collected, despite this Azak is known for their quick wit and jovially sarcastic nature. Azak's preferred form is a gaunt figure with 6 arms and large feathered wings like a crow, wearing a large cloak with many pockets on it. When appearing to mortals, Azak appears as a humanoid crow, often carrying a staff with a bindle. Azak lives within their Planar Vaults, far from the machinations of the other Primordials.

Rialin

Rialin appeared alongside Azak in the early universe, the 4th Primordial to do so. Rialin thought the universe a dreary place and endeavoured to fill it with light, sound and colour and created the first stars. They were the most joyful of the Primordials and would burst into song at any time. Rialin's preferred form was that of a song bird, often with a floating aetherial branch to perch on while singing. They were the first of the Primordials to be consumed by Ord and their knowledge of light, song and the underlying music of the universe incorporated into Ord.

Bak

Originally one large Primordial being, the twins Bak and Gerhin were split apart as the universe seemed to strain under the aetherial pressure of the huge Primordial. Bak felt that in order for the Primordials to properly shape the universe, they would require materials in order to do so instead of just raw Aether and set about creating all the matter that the other Primordials could use in their endeavours, such as Rialin's first stars. Bak was a serious, but fatherly figure to the other Primordials, always taking time to help when they required it. Baks preferred form was a stout male, covered in hair and clad in a leather apron, wielding a hammer and tongs, they used the first matter created to build a forge at the centre of the universe. Ord consumed Bak and their knowledge of matter creation as the second Primordial to be consumed like this.

Gerhin

Twin of Bak, Gerhin was wary of the endless creation of the Primordials and set about creating the methods of destruction, the return of creation to its base aether. Gerhin was always at odds with Azak, arguing that too much aether was locked up in Azak's collection that should be released back to universe. Gerhin was flippant and arrogant, often doing whatever they felt and not being too concerned for the consequences. Gerhin's preferred form was of a gigantic maw with many tentacled appendages to pull matter in for destruction. They were consumed along with Bak while demonstrating their newest creation, a hole to a pocket dimension from which light and matter could not escape.
